Geneology, I am doing it !!!

On Sunday afternoons I go to my "advanced" Geneology class. When I signed up I was hoping to get a refresher course. I need to get motivated to get researching again. It's difficult, because our intertwined Southern Utah families, have been researched and researched. I have a thousand names in my research file and all of their temple work has been done as far as I can tell. I have been working hard at scanning and putting family pictures on disc. I want these old pictures to be available to all of our children, and for them to be able to put faces to the names on their pedigrees. I love pictures, especially old pictures. It's very frustrating to find a photo and not have a name on it. I have some wonderful pictures of some children at what I think is my Grandpa Corrys farm, and I think the children are my dad and his brothers and sisters. Grandma Corry just wasn't good about writing names on the back. Anyway, if I live long enough, I will be leaving behind more of an organized mess than I inherited.

Today I asked the teacher, ( Who has a lot of faith to put me in her "advanced" class),to help me find my Great, Great, Great Grandfather. Its the only line I have that ends abruptly with John Joyce who died in 1881. He was born in 1822 in either Nova Scotia or Massachusetts. There are a lot of John Joyce's, some of them are pretty famous writers. Could his father have been one of them???? His daughter grew up to be a pretty famous writer in the church, Augusta Brannon Joyce, was a contemporary of Eliza R. Snow and Emmeline B. Wells. If you google her you get lots of stuff. But, nowhere can I find the names of Johns parents. Believe me I've looked. His Wife Caroline Perkins was disowned when she joined the church and married John. Could the same thing have happened to him??? They were passengers on the ship "Brooklyn", that left New York with a load of Latter Day Saints bound for California. They had two year old Augusta in their arms. My great, great grandmother was born in San Francisco, her name was Helen Francis Joyce. If anyone out there can give me a lead it would be much appreciated.

Anyway, researching your family is a great way to spend the day. Sometimes, I get so caught up in their stories, where they came from and what they liked to do, I have a hard time stopping.
Hours can go by. Unfortunately, I don't have hours. I have grandchildren. I do plan for them to know where they came from so they'll know where their going.

I am fascinated by all of this stuff! Thank you so much for doing all of the work. Maybe you can train me, and have an extra pair of hands helping!
