I am so grateful for indoor plumbing. I am not a great camper. Privvies, outhouses, latrines, porta pottie, whatever you call them, its just another name for really smelly and yucky. I would rather go in poison ivy than enter a smelly closet with an unflushable toilet. It goes back to my childhood days. Grandma didn't have indoor plumbling when I was little. Going out to the good old outhouse was terrifying for me. I just knew I was going to fall in or something was going to come out of that big dark hole and pull me in. Talk about your Post traumatic stress.
Getting stomach problems isn't fun. How did our fore fathers handle it? Above ground, open sewers. The lack of water, meant people didn't bathe very often. The smell was horrific. Desease ran rampant. Typhoid, plague, cholera just to name a few of the little nasty bugs, brought about because of the lack of sanitary desposal of human waste. People wore perfume scented jewelry to deal with the smell. I've heard people say they should have been born in another time. Not me, with all of our modern issues, I could not go back to the time before modern plumbing and sanitation. I like my daily shower and I like being around people who bathe daily.
So here's to the modern day toilet. Long shall you reign. I hope to being seeing less of you. I do hate you, to clean. I shall shout for joy when my toddlers learn you to use. Though the invention of the diaper genie, I do praise. May you not overflow again I do ask, may my son your lid learn to shut. I'm glad that your there for me in sickness and in health.

LOVE IT! Genius. Very well said. I too would have hated to be without so many of our modern conveniences and scientific advances. (wink)
