Another Rite of Passage -- The Junior Prom !!

This is dear son and his best "not" girlfriend Kira. They've been "not" boyfriend and girlfriend for a pretty long time. They really are cute. Anyway he's been planning to ask her to the Junior Prom since Kindergarden. She's been expecting him to ask her to the Junior Prom since at least 8th grade.
He's been pretty tied up with basketball and has been worried someone would ask her before he could get around to it. Sooooo last week he "reserved" her. Yep, he put a reserved sign in her room. It said "Kira is reserved for Junior Prom, to find out who your date will be open the first clue Monday 2/23/09 at 7:00 and follow the instructions."
I personally thought reserving her was kind of tacky, and he should just go ahead and ask her. But, he insisted he had to do something really special, and he couldn't get to it until after Region Basketball. Whatever happened to just calling a girl and asking her to the Prom. Apparently thats really old fashioned and not cool. Soooo the poor girl had to wait a week, thinking it was probably Jordan asking her, but what if it wasn't, and if it wasn't, then who was asking her to Prom? He pretended he didn't know anything.
So last night she finally got to open her clue (attached to a red rose) and go on a scavenger hunt to find her prom date. After following a trail of red roses, with clues attached, all over town, she finally got her last rose from Jordan, standing in the middle of the baseball field, where he asked her to go to Prom with him. I know you can say it "Ahhhhhhhhhh".
Apparently it was the coolest thing anybody could do. Girls have been coming up to him all day letting him know how terrific his invitation was and complaining about their lame Prom invitations. (I mean one guy had the audacity to just give the girl a teddy bear with a card asking her to prom. ) I guess my son was right about wanting his invitation to be special for his special best friend. So my baby boy has his date for Prom. The next big thing is High School Graduation followed by his mission............I'm sure glad I have my baby girls to keep my nest from being empty.
