One of the activities I really enjoy doing with the girls is going to the library. One of Kylee's first words was "library". She also knows "Church", "Pool", "Hospital" and "Park". She knows where my street is and "shopping". Pretty much can take you on a tour of the town. They love the library, they know where the books their age are and know where "Barney" and "Curious George" stuffed toys are supposed to be on the shelf. We were there a couple of weeks ago, and watched a helicopter land at the hospital. Now everytime we go by in the car, Kylee says "Hospital, Helicopter". It took awhile to convince the girls they couldn't run and around and tear the books off the shelves. I am more than grateful for a patient library staff. I know they must cringe when they see us coming. Anyway, they are behaving better.
You may have noticed I've posted a "widget" with some of the reading I've been doing. I can't sleep unless I read for awhile. When I was younger I'd stay up all night to finish a good book. I'm too old to do that now. I usually have to re-read the last chapters from the night before, pushing to read more when I'm tired, means forgetting what I've read the next night. There was a time I could read up to three of my moms "Harlequin" romance paperbacks in a day. Okay I didn't have much of a life back then.
I read all kinds of stuff as you can tell from my list. The biggest problem is my favorite authors don't write fast enough, Or they get old and retire, or worse they die. It's hard picking up a new author. I appreciate suggestions. I like mysteries, fantasies, biography or historical fiction. They can't be explicit. (dirty). They have to have a good story and make me think, or they can be absolutely mindless entertainment. Sometimes I don't want to think, but then I watch a lot of TV, so not thinking is something I do a lot. Maybe my next blog will be about favorite TV shows that have been cancelled after one season.
All my grandchildren get read to a lot. They love books. Maybe it's genetic. Except it skipped Dear youngest son, and dear youngest daughter. Thank goodness for instant messaging or they wouldn't read at all.

I agree with you... I think the hardest thing for me is just going to the library and pulling a book of the shelf. I totally have to go by suggestion. So, here's a few for you:
The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak? (spelling?)
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (3 book series... soooo good!! Like Harry Potter, but older and about a girl in the Victorian Age)
and I just finished The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards (not my favorite, but thought provoking and some what entertaining)
I've just started Life of Pi, which seems interesting
I'm going to have to take a look at the ones you've read...
Your the second one to suggest a great and terrible beauty. I'll have to go put it on my to read list. I do hate getting a book home from the library and finding out its not readable. "The whole you can't tell a book by its cover". So I tend to stick to the same authors and not give anyone else a chance, unless someone tells me they liked it. Thanks for the suggestions. A.N.
