I love the Olympics !!!!! I love the USA !!!! Every two years time just kind of stops while I watch the Olympics. Everything just kind of has to stop while I check out how my country is doing against the rest of the world. Though sometimes I even find myself cheering for under dogs from other nations. I'll never forget praying for Eddy the Eagle from England. He was a suicidal ski jumper. I held my breath with the rest of the world praying not that he would win a medal, but that he wouldn't break his neck.
It's impossible to take it all in. Especially the Summer Olympics. Field Hockey, Equestrian, Weight lifting, Judo and Karate, Wrestling, Boxing, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis, Track and Field, Gymnastics, Rowing, Rafting,Biking......... Most of these all have the men's and women's competitions and I haven't even listed them all or all the styles. In the olden days I would go buy a newspaper everyday to keep up with the medal count, now I can just turn on the lap top.
I was so excited today to see the women medal in "Saber". Did I mention fencing ? Gold, Silver and Bronze. It was so cool to watch the replay today. The fencing uniform is so cool, all the lights and buzzers and stuff. America is starting to dominate in sword play. Which is even cooler when you realize the best sword fighters in the movies were European. Don Juan, Zorro, Luke Skywalker..........just to mention a few.
I watched a litte Bike Racing. Spain is going to dominate there. Unfortunately the USA is rebuilding after all the doping scandals. It would be cool to see a biker from the USA step it up. But, I'm afraid he would have to be on a Harley. Latvia of all teams, beat the #1 seated mens beach volleyball team. I couldn't help being kind of excited for Latvia, seated #26 going in to the Olympics. Team USA had better get it in Gear. They will be playing two better teams and must win or they're done. I'm really sad about the Hamm twins. I'm a big fan of the Hamms. USA men's Gymnastics will just not be the same. I may tear up seeing them sitting in the bleachers.
I hope the rest of the team will be inspired by them and do better than expected. I'm a firm believer that on any given day, under the right circumstances, any team can step up and win. For example "Latvia". Point made. Go USA mens gymnastics.
I'm hoping our indoor Volleyball teams can keep their heads in the game after the loss of their
coaches father in law. My heart goes out to them. I watched the women today against Japan.
They looked determined. Win it for Coach Bauchman guys, he's got a front row seat in Heaven.
I was really hoping that these games would be pulled off without any violence. The games should be about the joy of sport and remembered for its wins and losses. So many inspiring stories of triumph and sportsmanship come out of every Olympics. Maybe thats why I love it so much.
Well I've got to get ready for Michael Phelps and the 4oo IM. Go Michael !!!! Go Team USA !!!

I love this post. I (and my entire family) LOVE the olympics too. I was cracking up when you said the USA needed a Harley to win the bicycling race. Too funny, and sadly, so true!
