A Rainy, Rainy, Day in San Juan.......

It rained, the wind blew, Hail fell, Lightning and Thunder. All this together equaled one soaked field. This picture was taken while I was standing under the concession stand roof. Usually the game would have been called, but no way were we going to drive back to San Juan on Monday to finish our play in game with Altamont or our first State game with San Juan. Out came the Tarps and the Kitty Litter and the rakes etc. After a 45 minute delay, the game went on.
This is dear son. You can see the mud on his uniform. This picture was taken at the bottom of the seventh inning. Two guys on base, no outs, and the top of San Juans batting order. You've heard the saying "that came right out of left field". Well, this is Jordan literally coming out of left field to pitch his very first time in a Varsity Game. He gives new meaning to the term Relief Pitcher.
Jordan on first base after the rain delay. They put him in as a substitute runner against Altamont. His only playing moment in that game. They talked about him starting as pitcher in this game. Dusty Reidhead did a great job and we got the win. He was content to sit the pine.
He could actually be called an expert base stealer.

Okay, so Judd Orton pitched an amazing 5 innings. But his sore arm just couldn't do anymore. The relief pitcher struggled through the 6th inning but did okay. In the 7th we had to hold on to our lead. The Cowboys were in danger, the relief pitcher was throwing balls. Like I said no outs, two runners on base, and the top of the batting order coming up. Sooooo what does the coach do? He calls Jordan in from left field, hands him the ball and says "get er done."

Now Jordan has been having a pretty good year pitching JV. Its not something he has really worked on, but he apparently has some natural talent. There are at least two or three other guys on the team who have had more experience pitching. But coach Mason just had a feeling he should go with "Jones". The jaws of the other Coaches dropped to the ground, I wanted to go sit in the car. These things are hard on parents. He had been playing 3rd base for most of the game but moved into left field when they brought in the relief pitcher from Center. We thought they were bringing him back to third and putting the third baseman in to pitch. To make a long story short, Jordan did great. The team backed him up and caught two pop up flys for two outs. The last out he was up against their second best batter and he struck him out. I'll tell you their was a lot of whoopin' and hollerin' and a few tears.

Did I tell you James came to watch the game too. Go Uncle Jordan, throw strikes !!!
"I hope it doesn't rain anymore Grandma!"
We go into the winners bracket on Thursday for out first State game against Juab. We'll be up in Kearns for a few days. I think Jordan's allready had a great Victory. It really meant a lot for his coach to have that kind of confidence in him.
GO COWBOYS, TAKE STATE!!!!!

We were so glad that we came to the game rain and all. I can't believe how great Jordan did, especially when he pitched. We were so proud of him.
